Error message re: String Table

My neighbour has a small specialist program which works perfectly OK. She is now trying to update it. The update is on a floppy disk.

The update starts to install itself but stops with an error message “Product name not found in string table”

I have installed the original programme on my computer without any problem and used the floppy disk to update it, again without any problem.


Therefore it would seem that there is something amiss with her programme as originally installed, albeit that it works OK. The obvious course is to uninstall and re-install. However before doing that I am wondering if the error message is an indication that something else needs attention.

We are both using XP Home Edition.

That message is probably very specific to that program. Suggest you look for a README file or other documentation that came with the program. If nothing there, suggest you backtrack to the source of the program (i.e., where you purchased/downloaded it).

Thanks for your suggestion. Despite a lot of searching I failed to find anything about this error message. However problem disappeared when I uninstalled/re-installed original programme. The update was then accepted without difficulty. Thanks again.
