I just got myself a brand new Creative 3d Blaster (GF4) Ti 4800 and I simply can't get it to work properly. It works ok in windows, but I can't seem to get any games working... some games say I don't got enough video-memory, some whine about direct 3d devices that they cant create or something and some just can't find my 3d card... It's probably all the same problem..
Here is what DX Diag says:
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
I'v tried several drivers; the original-cd-ones, latest detonator drivers from nvidia.com(44.04), latest detonator from creative (44.04) and some old ones that I found on a "backup-cd" I once burned.. same prob..
I'm running windows Me with Dx 9 on a Pc with an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and 768 Mb RAM, ECS K7S5A MoBo -if any of that helps...
I managed to run an old game (Deus Ex) with Open Gl instead of D3D, but it only worked in 800*600, windowed mode...
I've also tried earlier vs of Direct X (v 8.1) ..nuthin... :(
what to do?? someone, please help

Hey, You have an 8x video card and 4x board for one thing. Make sure there is no setting in the software that you installed that says 8x AGP (since you dont have 8x support on the mobo). I would also check out the ECS site for any driver updates (like AGP drivers). Your problem may be the bios or the motherboard. Either one can be fixed by reading up on it at the ECS web site. You can check your bios and try switching from auto to 4x and or upping the amount of RAM allocated.

Yup.. installed new AGP-drivers and it worked - once - in the dx diag.. but after a reboot.. nothing works.. these are the new messages by dx diag:
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: The tests were cancelled before completing.
Direct3D 9 test results: The tests were cancelled before completing.
>>(I didn't cancel the test...)
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error code)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out of memory)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out of memory)
>>(how can it be out of memory??? I don't get it... 3d card only need 64M... -??)

Did you try setting the AGP to 4x instead of auto?

A few links for you to look at,

Also try reinstalling your mobo drivers.

bios setting "agp 4x control"=enabled (enable/disable)
no 8x/4x setting anywhere, at least none I can find..
how do I allocate RAM?? can't find any such option (the PC hates me..hides important settings from me.. )
I looked through all the articles.. nothing helped.. even tried that weird netmeeting trick, but that just 'hanged' the pc...
also tried formatting c (again..) and reinstalling win me.. + sis agp driver + drivers to the 3d- and soundcard.. same thing..
about reinstalling those mobo drivers... Is that like the same thing as flashing the bios???
(i don't got any cd/floppy that says "motherboard drivers" or anything similar... got a "mobo-cd", but that one only got strange xtra software...):(

No flashing thi BIOS is not motherboard drivers. I looked here http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/index_driver_k7s.htm and all I see are the AGP drivers that you spoke about. You can also download the users manual and take a look at that, it also has the BIOS utility but I would only do that as a last resort. You can search google for flashing BIOS, You really should only do it if one of the builds fixes the problem you are having. I would look at the ECS website.
Also, Can you try another known good video card?

Inserted my old 3dcard yesterday and it worked fine... played some freelancer without any problem, but today, when I tried to boot the computer it just started beeping, like a hundred times... (or 10 or something..) Apparently couldn't detect the whole card.. the display remained black.. standby-light blinking...
I've got the manual already - on paper.. might dl that other one too, though, just to make sure I'm not missing anything...

wow, guys!! I think I just solved the problem... I've been having this little memory issue (strange out-of-memory-errors every once in awhile) and after looking through the hardware section I found a solution...
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=23955
seems like it solved the d3d problem too...
I'm off to play some freelancer and Mafia and UT2k3 and.. and..
yay.. :D

the removing-one-of-my-precious-memorysticks-solution...
though I've got a feeling updating the AGP-drivers did a little bit of helping too... -'cause after I did that I got different errors from dx diagnostics...
