Hi,

I'm going to upgrade my system pretty soon and therefore I would like to dump my old one. The question here is: given the specs listed below, what kind of a price can I ask for it? I'm not looking for a buyer, I just want some opinions. I do not want to give it away for free 'cause then I'd rather just keep it myself as a music box or something, and besides: I can use the money for the new system :D

I ran the system sumary from Sisoftsandra and edited the report somewhat 'cause I'm gonna keep certain parts (like my network adapter and second hard disk and such). This is pretty much the system as I originaly bought it, except that I expanded the ram up from 128. It has served me very well for over 3 years, it's a very stable system that hasn't had any heat or psu problems ever. (I'm not trying to sell it here, just wanna stress that it may be old, but still rock solid and therefore worth some money). Also: I'm just selling case and what's in it so no screen, keyboard, mouse, printer,...

It runs Winxp at the moment but that can be changed to win'98 2nd ed. at the buyers want. (don't use that cd that much anymore :) ) HDD will be formated and all programs freshly installed when someone buys it, with the latest drivers for mobo, vidcard etc installed...

The possible buyer I have at the moment is my sister so she's looking at all-in life-long absolutely free maintenance by yours truly as well. ;)

My parents Dell is a bit faster in processor speed, but yours has a better Gcard and more Memory. Ours is estimated at around $800-$1200. Don't take it from me though get some other responses.

If I was going to buy it, I'd try to convince you that it wasn't worth $100. If I was trying to sell it, I'd try to convince you that it was worth $200-$300. American dollars.

There are alot of these low/mid mhz, P3, micro towers around. They are good used computers for homework, web surfing and simple business use.

The thing is, there are plenty of used P4 boxes around in the $300-$400 range that have 2.0ghz processors and 40-60 gig harddrives.

If I had it before I built a computer for my sister last year, I would have given it to her and claimed credit for a couple of years of birthday and Xmas presents. My point being that the hassle of selling it may not be worth the money you get on it. If you are selling it in an area where computers are harder to find or more expensive, you will have a better shot at it. For where I live, you might end up spending more on ads to sell it than you could make.

If you decide you really do want to sell it, you might try eBay. That is also an easy way to check out prices for similar systems. Keep in mind that the bidding process at eBay tends to inflate computer prices a bit however.

killercow,

Who estimated that amount for your parent's computer? It probably hasn't been worth that for a while....

Yea, well I guess that included the Flat LCD and All in one printer/fax/scanner. Might have included the big fully enclosed desk too.

Abbadon, It is not worth much, 100 bucks or so. The p3 667 and 133 ram and the old mobo just are not really worth much. Even a entry level compaq or emachine would be much better and they go for around 300-400 American. Budfred is right on the money, give it to her and tell her merry xmas and birthday. If you sell her the machine and someone else tells her you ripped her off, because its a boat anchor and you charged to much, you'll just end up causing more grief than its worth.
My 2 cents anyway

Variable;
I would agree, except that overhere (in merry old belgium) even cheap dells of compaqs aren't that cheap. I posted the same question on a belgian forum and opinions varried from 100 to 300 euro's. (which is about the same in dollars, well, kinda anyway ;) )

Lucky me by the way: she just called me today because her current pc went KA-BOOM or something, says the damn thing just keeps on beeping on startup. I'm gonna try and fix it, but not too hard :D

Seriously though, thx for all the replies everyone, I'll see what I'm gonna do with it / ask for it. If I do sell it I'll let you know what it caught me...

cheerio!

I posted the same question on a belgian forum and opinions varried from 100 to 300 euro's.I would stick to the higher end of that then, since you're selling a very attractive package. True it's only the tower, but including the OS, software, and current drivers? That's almost heroic of you! :D

Not to mention the hardware - good mobo, upgraded RAM, AGP video card (I assume?), name-brand CD drive, and still has more processing power than most home users need! :p

Unless your sister takes it, why not ask for 300 euros and see who bites?

System Mainboard : MS-6318
System Chipset : VIA Technologies Inc VT82C691/693A/694X Apollo Pro/133/133AThat's a MSI mobo there, using a pretty good VIA chipset for Socket370 processors. I've used a few MSI mobo's and all of them have been great. In fact, MSI is my favorite cheap mobo manufacturer! :D High quality stuff, low price.
