Hello Dave9362,

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Would you tell us a little more about your system? What devices do you have...Sound Card, NIC, etc.? Was the sound working before...and you added software/hardware?

What exactly is the error message saying?

Have you tried right-clicking on the speaker icon (lower right) and checking to see whether anything is muted that ought not be?

Sorry for delay in responding.

I have a SIS7018 audio card, i am running ME on an AMD Duron 1.9GHz machine. There is also a SIS900 PCI Ethernet adapter, but this is disabled.

When I look at system properties it says the device is working properly, but when I look at the sound device it says " Device driver enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem":(

Try finding the drivers for the sound card....either an update or the original versions.

Then boot into Safe Mode and look in Device Managerand look for duplicate drivers, especially the sound card. IF duplicates are found remove them.
