I am installing a new hard drive on a computer. After I finish loading the operating system and all the drivers, I would like to make a bootable CD of this system , so as to help me in the future if I clean out the drive. Can anyone tell me how this is done? Also, if it can be done, how will the computer be able to access the CD ROM(if the hard drive is formatted) if the CD ROM drivers are on the disk?
Please help. and thanks to all in advance.

Im not completly sure you could make a bootable CD with the OS and Drivers on, although you could make a backup of all the files that you install (e.g. OS, Drivers etc).Which could be copied from the Hard Drive after Installation.

To overcome the CD-Rom being loaded on startup when the Hard Disk's been formatted use a bootable floppy disk that is made by the OS (Im assuming your running Windows).

Im not sure any of this really is relevant but it shold work just as well. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

More system info will help. Newer CD-ROM drives and OSs are bootadle. Windows ME is installed completely without floppies.
As for making an "Image" of your complete install (OS, drivers...) you need to consider the amount of space available on a CD. Also, there are certain steps that should be followed when installing drivers and other things.
It is considered wise to take your time and do regular shutdowns and cold boots when installing http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Article about making a Restore disk (http://www.pcnuthut.com/Info/revampwindows.htm) after starting completely over. He uses Drive Image and CD Creator, but suspect one can substitute other comparable software.
