Not really a Mac thread so I guess I'll post it here. Move it if it's in the wrong place please:) .
I am NOT familiar mith mac. I have used it a couple times but other wise I have not semi-mastered it like windows. A few quick questions. How is it run? Is it like windows with folders and folders inside folders with the executable files which tell which folders to open and which files to execute or how does it work. I'm going to hawley-cooke to get some Mac for dummies and Programming for dummies and stuff. The only real version i know is OSX Jaguar.

MY QUESTION IS:
WHICH IS THE BEST VERSION OF MAC?
Which would I want?
Can mac run BattleField1942 and Desert Combat?
What are the advantages besides no Bill Gate$?
~And no system crashes unless you purposely do something.

THANKS!

I may be wrong, but I believe you can't just install a Mac OS on a PC and expect it to run. I think they do have emulation software that will allow you to do this, but I have heard that these are expensive and not really effective. That may not be true anymore, I really don't keep up with Mac news. I know that you can run Windoze programs on a Mac fairly easily though....

Which Mac ? Well that depends on how much dough you're willing to take out...

The best ? G5 without a doubt. Advantages ? Many. Games ? Not that many :(

But the Mac is really the most powerful personal computer ever, period.
Worked on a Mac and I absolutely miss it. Wish I had the dough, I'd get one for sure.

How it works ? Not really all that differently from Windows apart from the fact that it WORKS!

OSX is nice but I can't wait to try Panther.... It is the stuff dreams are made of, if you know what I mean! ;)

Good place to start to learn about how it works and some of its advantages is this site. Some people will recognize it... ;)

There is a distribution of Darwin (the basis for OSX) for the PC.....I have been itching to try it,but just don't have the time to devote to a 300++MB download (on dial up....and yes I did say a few months back I was about to try it, but that download was just the files, not the installer)

Ok, so if I were to go to http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore/ and want to purchase an OS, could I pop it in and install it to the hard drive then run it? From what I'm hearing you cant. What OS do I want? Consider power and ability to run games.

THANKS!

I think that the choice of OS is relatively the easiest one. OSX (Jaguar) is for now, the most flexible and powerful one.

Installation of a Mac is as easy as installing Windows really. I haven't done an installation of OSX so I couldn't say about it, but I've done a few back when it was OS 9 and OS 8 and it was pretty straightforward.

No killer OS X will not run on your PC. You would need a Mac or the distribution of which mjc spoke.

Right now, if you are a serious gamer, Windows is still your best choice, with XP having the best combination of power, stability and game friendliness.

Yes of course, I probably understood wrong.... OSX needs to be installed on a MAC of course, it won't run on a PC.

Thanks.
As for my last question is it possible to build a computer that can run MAC OSX? Possible to build one that CAN have winXP and OSX on it?
