My take on it is that Linux and Mac are specialty OS's and that Windows is the only OS for everyone else. I am not really sure you could make a Windows type OS, that has all the functionality and widespread software development, without all the problems they seem to have. It wouldnt matter what company did it. I am sure that MS is employing many, many intelligent people to design their OS's.
