Hello everyone. My AC Adapter for my Prostar 5694 Laptop just broke and I'm not really looking forward to ordering a $90.00 part from the manufactuer on the other side of the country. Last time I ordered something it took weeks to receive and was also too expensive. Does anybody here know were I could get an adapter that would accomodate my laptop for a better price and quicker? My broken ac adapter has the following specs:
AC Input: 100 ~240V at 2.5A / 50~60Hz Frequency
DC Output: 20V at 6.0A / 120W Max.
Dimensions: 6.10" x 2.5" x 1.5"
Weight: 1.2 lbs
I found a universal adapter here:
http://web1.applelaptopbattery.com/ccp5/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?rrc=N&pg=prod&ref=SMP-70W
But I'm not sure if it will be a match. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.
Thanks,

You will need to check if the rated current output of the converter matches the required current of your laptop particularly as there is a difference in power ratings This (http://www.laptopacadapter.com/smp-70wdetails.htm) shows an example of how to locate current rating of device, and you would also need to ensure that it comes with a plug that is the correct size for the laptop.
If you get the right current/voltage ratings and plug size then broadly speaking any adaptor should work with any laptop(broadly speaking).

Thanks for the advice pave. The only problem that I'm having now is trying to figure out what kind of plug came with my adapter from the factory. I'm not sure what it is called. So far all of the ac adapters that I've come across don't have it. The plug almost looks like a ps 2 port in a way. If you know what it might be called please let me know. Here is the link to my factory ac adapter:

Thanks again,

That new adapter you linked to has a maximum output of 70W. The existing one is 120 max. It may not be powerful enough for your laptop.
The connector problem is easier to overcome. Simply cut the connector off your old adapter, and splice it to the new one.

Thanks David. I should have clarified earlier that the connector piece is actually what has broken apart. And the type of connector is the main reason that I cannot seem to find a similar adapter. If you know of any way website or anything that lists the varoius types of connectors with pics it would help out a lot.
Thanks,

If it is only the connector, then a look at this site (http://rswww.com/) could help. It's an english company, but it will allow you to see if the item is available. Once you know what the connector is, it may be possible to obtain one through your nearest electronics outlet.

Another thing to do if your comfortable messing with electric/electronic equipment and you cant locate a suitable plug might be to see if you can determine on the laptop where the various positive and negative lines actually connect to the laptop and modify some other plug and/or the laptop input.
CAUTION This is ONLY recommended if:
1.The laptop is not under warranty
2.You are familiar with electronics and quite possibly soldering.
3.You arent worried about destroying the motherboard/processor.
Otherwise I would say it looks like you may be out the $90 for a genuine part.

Ok thanks to the both of you. I'm going to try to find out the part first and then if that doesn't work I might have to go to the exreme and but it after all. Thanks for the help,
