I NEED HELP!!! This only happens when I start my computer for the first time in the morning. When loading windows, my hard disk/s makes funny, kinda highsounding noise, not loud. After the windows has loaded, about a minute after, my mousepointer slows and few secs after an error message appears ( windows error with the blue background ) an it says: Could not read from or write to C:\ all data may be lost. If I restart the system, my bios won´t find the primary master hard disk, but if I shut the power and then start my PC again, all goes well for the rest of the day. Same problem occures again the next morning.
Scandisk found no bad sectors (nor anything else bad) and no viruses are detected. What causes this and what can I do.
Sometimes the problem doesn´t occur at all, sometimes it does.

try looking at this. Mean time some sys.specs. would help if you can't find somthing related post back and we'll go from there. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
also look in Device mgr.for any conflicts

I recall reading something about if the hard drive doesn't spin up fast enough, you can't really access it and so sometimes can be a bad power supply...but it sounds like your hard drive is doing okay once it has spun up and warmed up a little? Anyway, our experts should be able to help, but I would recommend getting all essential files into lifeboats...just to be on the safe side. My hard drive makes little groaning noises getting up in the morning, but then, so do I. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

My Hard Drive makes a horrible noise on first boot and occasionaly thereafter. I'm putting this down to Thermal Re-Calibration, but I have started to make very regular back-ups, just in case.
Gilderoy Sorry I'm no help to you but I'm still looking http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Edit: I wonder if this could be a re-calibration problem, since if it doesn't re-calibrate properly it won't find any data. Then when it's warmed up a bit, all will be okay. Just a thought!

Gilderoy, also, do you get any other error messages when you shut down or start up?

How old is your drive?
Who is the manufacturuer?
What is the model number?
I recall (although as I age, my memory is not what I think it is) that Maxtor had a problem a few years back with noisy hard drives.
Check the manufacturuers web site for info about your drive. I was poking around once for a lcient and found the drive had been recalled due to premature failure.
Try the diagnostic software from the Manufacturers web site.
Back up your important files.
And since it works ok once it;s on, leave it on until you resolve this. If the drive is going bad, don't stress it by starting up or one day it just wont...
