Hello Chelo and welcome.
A little more system info would help us alot.
How old is it?, Any other problems? Have you changed or done anything to the machine lately?
A clicking from the HDD and not finishing loading of the OS might indicate a dead HDD, but lets get some more info first.

bassmaster, I am using a two hard drives. One that was clicking was set as the slave hdd. I rarely used it and it never has given me any trouble. It is a 5gig hard drive. A friend just told me over the phone, to disconnect the slave and reboot. By golly, it is booting up and now running fine. Why could the slave hard have done this? Is it a faulty Power supply, Ide cable???? Let me know grandwizard! Thanks

As for why you are not able to get past the OS load, I am not exactly sure. I have just had the exact thing happen where the slave drive was making noise and became unreadable (couldn't see it under "My computer".)
I did not have the incomplete load problem though. I will be interested to see what some of the others say about the lockup.
Could there be something on this drive that is in your "startup"? If it is unable to read the info correctly, it would probably lock...??

I had the same problem recently. I had a client with a bad hard drive. When i tried to hook up the new hard drive as master and the old hard drive as slave to get some information off, NO BOOT. Remove the slave and it boot's up fine. What worked for me was putting the hard drive on the secondary IDE channel, if you have one.
If there is some useful information on the slave dive,
Get a copy of the diagnostic software from the drive manufacrturer. If its not really bad, it might eb able to repait the drive enough to get your data off. Otherwise, it may be covered under the warranty, some are up to 5 years (usually less) and they want you to run the diagnostics and report the results to them before they will send a replacement hard drive
good luck.

Hello Chelo http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Well, I removed that bad drive from my Windows ME box and set it as Prime/Slave on my 95 box. Guess what? No boot! Mine would not finish POST.
My explination of this would be "It is hanging in BIOS." and not the OS load.
I think it is time we both took a trip to CompGeeks (http://www.computergeeks.com) and bought ourselves some new space http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Good luck

I think it was Pete pointed out the other day that one caution would be to check the HDDs for possible alternate jumper settings if used in a 2 HDD set up. It may have a slave jump, however, if used as a slave in a 2 HDD set up it may have another jumper setting.
May all your dealings in life be win/win!

Are you sure that the click sound is coming from the hardDrive? Sometimes it is the Memory chip that is not seated correctly and making the Click click sound.

It is definately the hard drive that was making the sound. As for jumper settings, the drive making the noise was the slave and the other hdd is set as the master. this back up hdd has been in my computer for years with the same jumper settings.
