Hi,
friend of mine has bought a new case with lots of fans and is wondering about how to reduce dust intake. There isn't any filter over his intake-fans and so he's decided to make one for himself. What kind of material can be used for this? I told him perhaps a multi-layered piece of nylon stockings would do the trick but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?
thx!

I material I use is the same as found in air-conditioners. It is very inexpensive and can be cut easily with a scissors.
It is 15" X 24" X 1/4" which will provide me with many fan filters...
edit: I'm afraid that multiple layers of nylon would not allow for free air movement! :( Even one layer might be too restrictive...

Thx! Does this airco-material have a special name or will the know what I mean when I go to the hardware store?

I'm pretty sure it's a standard for ACs...and a hardware store would be a pretty good bet to be able to find it...
Mine says: "Polyurethane Foam" Air Conditioner Filter...Removes Dust and Pollen from the Air...Washable and Re-usable...Can be cut to any size with ordinary scissors...

Your friend might also want to look at these premade filters. I use them and they work pretty good. Here (http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=directron&query=filters&.autodone=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.directron.com%2Fnsearch .html)

Good grief Jiggy that sucker (I mean blower) looks awesome! I'll bet when it's cranked up with that 110V motor that it'll trap mosquitoes also...great here for Minnesota
Constructed of sheet metal...welded collar...:p
For some reason I envision a firehose scenario with the computer case wildly flailing at the end of the hose...:D

Switch that thing to suck and you could probably remove every jumper and loose screw that might be floating around inside the case.

1) Stuf a dummy-pc with goodies like M&M's and oreo's
2) Go to LAN-party
3) Hook up da thingie
4) Switch Da Thingie to suck
5) Press "on"
6) Watch crazed gamers rund for / from chocoloate chrapnel!!
Man, if I had the money & skills, I would SO do this :D

Why not go the whole hog and hook up a big-ass 3-phase fan and watch the M&Ms embed themselves in peoples vital organs.

Isn't that the cooling system suggested to cool the multiple processors and 4 gig of ram needed for windows 2010?
