A few days ago I went to turn on my computer (which I bult myself about 2 years ago) and everything began to load up as usual, counting RAM, processor speed etc.

Then when it gets to Verifying DMI Pool Data.....

The computer freezes and wont proceed http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif, ive tried taking it apart and re-building it, ive tried clearing the CMOS and BIOS settings, ive tried clearing out all the junk thats not required for it to run (minimal hardware boot-up)...and nothing. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

It just gets stuck at the same place time and time again, even booting from another device wont work because the Verifying DMI Pool Data part of boot up comes before any of the devices are activated....

Any idea would be appreciated.....im comletely lost on this one!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

I know this may sound dumb have you changed the battery?
You may have to FDISK and reformat?
Might have to hot swap the Bios chip?

Try HERE (http://www.ping.be/bios/)
These are just suggestions some system info would help http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

one more thing to think of might be a bad Board

The system is running;

AMD K6-2 500MHZ
SMC A15VG+ Motherboard (AT Motherboard)
Hercules Geforce II MX
Soundblaster 16 PCI
128MB RAM Module (PC100 DIMM)
64MB RAM Module (PC100 DIMM)
32MB RAM Module (PC100 DIMM)
Total = 224MB SD-RAM
USB PCI Card (2 Ports)
56k Conexant HCF Modem

I havnt changed the battery, but I have tried clearing the CMOS but with no luck, and I cant Format or FDisk because I cant actually get into the sytem. Also how do I hot swap the BIOS chips??? (Sorry if that sounds dumb http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif )

Thanks for the advice ar'll give it a shot, but im not sure it'll work (Well heres hopeing) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Here is a link to check out:

Give it a try

p.s. I would try to avoid FDISK and reformat unless everything else failed.

Right Ive tried both the methods mentioned on the Maxtor site, both didnt work so im gonna try plugging my Hard Drive (Which is a Maxtor hard disk) into this machine im currently on (A lowly Pentium 90 http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif ).

Thanks for the site, anymore help would be appreciated if the next step I take doesnt work, I might take it back to the retailer as I only got it about 4 Weeks ago (if it is the Hard Drive). http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Right well ive tried all I can think of, im certain theres no problems with either the RAM or Hard Drive because im using them both at the moment http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (on my other Computer). My Graphics card has been tested in a machine at College and work fine so its not that. The only thing I can think of thats left is the M/Board which is a real kick in the teath http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

If anyone else has got any ideas please post them up and if anyone here uses mIRC and has ideas tell me the server and room your normally in. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Contact the manufacturer of the motherboard, there may be something that we are overlooking...and check in on the other post I posted a couple of more links there that may help you too.

I have to agree call the the motherboard mfg.But just to put my mind at ease Change the battery if it held configuration before that is all that is left besides a bad board.I'll sit down tomorrow and type out inst. on hot swap but you'll still need another board to preform this(a good one)I'll E-Mail. Later http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Tossing fuel to the fire!

I checked Microsoft regading this error and only 1 hit came up. They say that it is a Hardware Problem and to consult your computer manufacturer...which I guess would be you! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I read through the posts pretty quickly on this thread...so I didn't really catch if anyone else pointed this out.

You could try one device at a time and see when the error comes back up!
