I just reinstalled Windows 98Se. The installation went smoothly, but now the monitor only shows up in 640X480 resolution, and only 16 colors. I know I'm not being very specific (not at my computer right now). Could you all please give me some hints as to what to check for & how to fix this? Would this be a problem with the video card? I tried to install the drivers for it (Diamond Viper 770D) and it said it installed successfully but when I checked in Device Manager I couldn't find that device. The adaptor for the monitor is shown as a standard VGA adapter (don't recall the exact name).

You probably installed the Standard VGA Driver correctly, but it didn't find your actual driver. If you know where it is, use the Update Driver function in Device Manager in Properties for the Display Adapter and make sure you use the Have Disk function and point it right at the driver.....

The Diamond Viper 770D is an nVidia TNT2 video card. You could load the original driver that was supplied on a CD, or -
The new nVidia Detonator driver (45.23) should work for that card. It can be downloaded at:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
To use the Detonator driver, start Win98SE, then run the downloaded driver file. You'll have to reboot, then the driver will be installed. Once the driver is installed you will be able to select different screen resolutions.
