I have been handed a recently killed computer, Don't know much about what lead up to the demise of this Gateway. Computer is completly dead, No post beeps, orange light on both the monitor and case, No spinning fans, I checked the voltage coming from the Newton Power LTD 70 watt power supply and I was getting 8+ max, so I pulled my power supply out of my computer and powered up and still nothing, Of course in hindsight I did not check voltage coming into the mother board connector, I fugured if my power supply did not power it up then nothing would, Is there something else I could try?, It seems when I had original power supply in front light on case was orange, but when I stuck my power supply on it was green??, Something in the power switch or wire to the mother board, What else can I try, thanks for any help you can give, PS are there any questions I could ask the user to narrow down problem, thanks

It had a 70 watt power supply??????
I would probably start by stripping it down to barebones, possibly even taking the motherboard out and testing it on a piece of cardboard with only CPU, power, keyboard, video, case speaker and one stick RAM, after blowing out the dust real well. If you get POST, the next step would be to put it back in the case and try the same config. If still good, add the floppy. If still good, add the hard drive and so on. If it fails at any point, it tells you that you have probably found the problem component.
Also, do a visual inspection for any evidence of burn, scarring or swollen/burst capacitors.
It might be a good idea to post back here with any info you have on the model and components....

No luck, did barebones install with above mentioned items , nothing, though i mis stated earlier , 90 watt power supply and the fan is spinning, What now , I looked at the board and could find no signs of burning, What other componets do I need to mention?, Since I can't get to the POST , where do i go from here?,

A nice funeral....:)
If you did barebones out of the box, there are only a few possibilities left. You might have bad RAM or video card, but usually you can at least get POST with that. That leaves bad motherboard and/or CPU. The only way I know to test them is to swap out with a known good compatible computer and see if either work. Given that this one has already been declared dead, it may be best scavenged for parts and given a decent burial (or recycle).....
