Well, I'm leaving the world of dial-up behind in about a week and switching to DSL. I've orded the service, and now have to get my network set up for 3 computers.

I bought a Linksys DSL/Cable 4-Port Router, model NR041. I don't have the DSL service ready yet, but I thought I'd get the network up beforehand. I pluged all 3 computers into the router, (two Windows 98se systems and one Windows 2000 professional.) The systems running Windows 98 can find each other and they work perfectly, however the one on Windows 2000 isn't working. In Windows it says "network cable unplugged" under status and the lights on the router show its not connected. I think I have my system set up right because I was able to network between the Windows 2000 machine and one of the Windows 98 systems before I got the router. Please help me!

-Windows 2000 system is using a built in SiS LAN card

I would check the cable first.
For a good connection and that the cable is the correct type.
A Patch Cable Not crossover cable

A quick check would be to replace the cable with one that is working on the other systems

I've already tried several different cables including the one that was working before, so I don't think that is the problem.

I'm sure you already tried this but never hurts to check.

Have you tried hooking up the Computer that isn't working into a known working port on the Router? (IE, switch ports with a computer that shows the status lights lit?

Only reason I ask, is that it is not uncommon for a single port to go bad in a router. (I had a Lnksys 4 port router lose two ports)

If you're sure all ports in the router are in working order and the cables are good, the next step would be to check the Lan card and settings in the "non working" machine.
