hi everyone...
i'm having audio trouble and i think its related to the fact that there's an ! beside one of my sound components. under device status, it's telling me that it cannot find any free IRQ's unless i disable another device (which i don't want to). what are my options??

Rule 1: The computer is always right.
Rule 2: If you think the computer is at fault, see rule 1.
You can try booting into safe mode and removing the device ther and any duplicate devices, let WOndows reinstall it and hope it decides to play nice....otherwise something will have to be disabled.
What device is it?

I’d also check the properties for the device and make sure if it has an option to share
Make sure it is checked.
Also Check the Bios if it is an on board ( On Motherboard) sound card/device.
Enabled for dos or pci / windows settings

the device that's causing problems is the monster sound emulation.
under resources, its conflicting with the programmable interupt controller (irq 2).
i took out the sound card and reinstalled it... same thing.. the emulation is in conflict.... i've tried to remove just this component but everytime windows boots up its looking for the driver for this device which is annoying, so i assign it its driver. then it conflicts with another device.
under properties, there is no option that allows me to share this device with another... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
i do have a onboard sound card but i disabled it in the bios and it doesn't show under sound devices in system properties... so i don't think (know) if it is causing the problem....
what else can i do?? can i assign it another irq that will conflict with say... the com 1 or 2 port?? i don't use those now so.....

If you are not using com1 or 2 .
I’d go into the bios and disable one or both.
This would allow your system to use them for your sound card.
I haven’t done anything with the monster sound card in years.
I don’t recall if it had an install program or configuration program.
It should however if it’s plug and pray take one of the open irq’s
You do NOT want to share IRQ2 with anything

thanks guys...
i think my audio problems have to do more with the driver than the conflicting irqs...
putting old parts into new computers just doesn't seem to work these days...
i'll just have to settle for the on-board audio untill i get myself a new sound card.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Dear Kalifaye:
I agree with Rick. Your best bet is to disable one of the on board serial ports and free up IRQ's that way. I do this all the time to get sound cards and NIC's to work. Older cards expecially like to use the lower IRQ's.

Right disable the com ports and anything else that you don't need and then try this.
copy your OS installation files to your hard drive and make sure you have all the current drivers for your computer.
Open regedit and navigate to HKLM>Enum
Delete the Enum key and close regedit
Reboot
When windows restarts it will find and install all the hardware in your computer and should handle all the problems. When it asks for the installation cd just point it to the folder where you copied the cd to.
hope this helps
