Ok. This is my first post here, cause i have a big problem. I consider my self some what smart about computers..... i've messed mine up enough and fixed it to say that. However, today i have run into a problem i cannot beat. Everytime i boot my computer hangs at the summary screen about my systmes config. It sits there with a blinking cursor and thats it. I've tred every thing from a different hard drive, to only a floppy drive......... anything i could think of to fix this. Nothing works, no matter what my boot sequence is it hangs. Please help me. I've only had my computer disabled for 6 hours and i am already going crazy.
Thanks
Dane

Hi Dane, Welcome to the forum.
Before someone comes on who can help you with this could you post back some system specs and any changes you may have made to your system prior to this happening.
Sounds like the boot process is failing just at the point where it is looking for a drive to boot from. When you tried to boot from your floppy drive was it with a known good boot disk.
Anyway, if you could post back your system specs http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Daneish, by any chance is the computer freezing on boot just at the point were it says.
Verifying DMI Pool Data.....
If so ive got the exact http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gifsame problem and ive got a thread currently running, if not as Geebee said some system info would be an idea and any changes you have made recently. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Rev, we were discussing you problem in the chatroom tonight and I came up with a couple of links you may want to try...this first one is for Daneish also...Promise (http://support.promise.com/trouble/problems_booting_ExistingOS_after_install_Controll er_Card.htm) it is kind of specific to the Promise IDE controller but I think the fixes and problem are spread around to a little more than their controller...and this (http://www.plasma-online.de/english/help/solutions/win9x_dmi.html) one is more or less just for the DMI problem.

Specs

At times i have had 128 pc 133 ram 256 pc 133 ram 2 32 pc 100 ram 40.0 gig maxtor fireball hard drive.
Abit Motherboard, not sure what model.
If you need any other specs please tell me.
Thanks

Check the second link mjc posted above, read it carefully or print it out and follow the steps for going through the BIOS settings carefully. That sounds like exactly your problem. You might need to try it with the different RAM chips, could be one or more of them is defective.

ALrighty, the problem is getting narrowed down now. I tried what was suggested above with no luck. I put back in the pc 133 ram, and it works fine. The problem is when i set my cpu to the right speed in bios it hangs where i said above everytime. But when i use it at a lower setting not using 133 bus it works fine.......... but why? Help if ya can. Thanks, dane
