I was tweaking around with one of my old comps and removed the Simm ram and replaced with Dimms, now it won't go through the post test. I've tried setting the old ram back, swapping the power supply, motherboard/processor and video card (pretty certain all the swapped componenets are in working condition). Sort of at a loss to what to try next

As far as I know, you can not replace SIMM with DIMM. They are two different types of memory and pins are different.
If you are putting back old simm and pc not posting, try to reset cmos. Clear the MB cmos, there should be jumper to do that and then try reboot.

Here is link if want to find more about memory. http://www.kingston.com/tools/umg/umg2000.pdf

The mobo I was working with had slots for both Simms and Dimms. Can I reset the MB cmos by temporarily removing the battery?

Try that, may work. But I remember someone mentioning that if you took the battery out, wait for 30~60 minutes before putting it back. You have to redo your BIOS setup again.

Still no luck. The post test doesn't even get as far as video.

Let me ask a rather silly question is the metal on th Dimm cards the same as the metal in the socket?? what I mean is you can't use gold plate in a tin socket if that makes sense I know it sounds silly but the two metals don't work to gether.just a thought.Still searchen http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If your board is set for both SIMM and DIMM, any chance you need to mention your choice to the BIOS?
