Does anyone know how to delete search engine tracks.I use Alta Vista and IE5.5 The list of previous searches is huge and I'd like to erase some but not all of the entries. Thanks in advance for any help I get.

I'm not sure in ie5 but in ie 6 [shoul be the same] go to tools- internet options- content- auto complete- clear forms. This should get rid of the tracts. Leave the password alone or you'll have to enter them all over again. Also tools- internet options-general- clear history. The first one should work for search engines. Hope it is the same.
Mark:)
By the way this will remove all the tracks, not sure how to remove just some.

Or better yet go here and get Spider.

http://www.fsm.nl/ward/

This will find and get rid of everything including the Index.dat file, which is re-made when you re-boot. When you run it just make sure you select all hard drive. Read the documentation.

If your HDD is partitioned it sees each partition as a seperate drive and each must be done seperatly.

I ahve been using this for quite while now. It does NOT delelte tracks for the likes of Opera, only from IE.

I'm not for sure on this option, but I seem to remember when I had windows ME, it autocompleted the search options. I used to just hold the cursor over the unwanted selection (without clicking) and then hit the delete button on my keyboard. It's not set up to autocomplete on my XP home, but it seems like it would still work. BTW, I think it was on the version 5 b4 I upgraded it to Ver. 6. It may not work, but its worth a shot.

Hi Bullman,
I just tried that and it works for the address bar but not for a seperate search engine search. This though is with ie6

I gave it a shot. I couldnt remember exactly which one it would work on. It may have just been my computer, that one used to do some strange stuff, lol. Most of it wasnt good though.

It get rid of all tracks. Leaves no trace of where you have been on the net what soever. Also I make the choice to remove all logs that it makes (you are given that choice before commiting. But you must set for COMPLETE Drive to achieve this. Each partition is seen as a seperate drive and it must be run for each one seperatley

Be aware that it will get rid of any password cokies as well. I do not know about ordinary passwrods as I never store my passwords on the computer.

The index.dat carries a lot of info of where you have been and when opened (there is instructions on how to do this on the site) it is surprising what can be read from there.

IE6 does not empty / get rid of the Index.dat file. IE6 (or any version) leaves lots of files/tracks on your computer. If someone opens the index.dat file up (must be done is dos) they can still see where you have been.
