Motherboard: Amptron K7-810XLM
CPU: AMD AthlonXP 1700+
RAM: 128Mb
Video: Onboard Video
HDD: Maxtor 9GB (don't know Model#)
CD: Lite-On 32X
OS: No OS
Monitor: HP Pavilon M50

I have recently put together the above system. When I first put it together the monitor worked fine, so I turned it off because it was late and I went to bed. The next day I went to work on the computer some more but the monitor would not work. It turned on but the light turned from bright green to a low green light. The system turned on alright, I could hear the hard drive spin and the system fans worked put there was no picture on the monitor. Someone please help!

Oh yeah. There was a light storm during the night but I had the system powered down and hooked up to a surge protector.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

If you got hit with lightening, that surge prtector probably wouldn't be enough, but you would probably also see some evidence of damage.

Have you checked all connections? If the connection were at all loose, it may have been enough to work for a while and then not.

Have you tried disconnecting drives? This is often a good way to begin to narrow down the problem.

Were there any problems indicated when you were getting info on the screen and did you make any BIOS changes? If you did make BIOS changes, try resetting the BIOS with the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard.

If you have another monitor you can try, it would be worthwhile to do so.

i tried everything you said to do and there were no signs of damage from lightning. I tried the monitor on a different computer and it worked, but when i tried a different monitor for my board it still wouldn't work. I tried setting the CMOS jumper to clear but either i didn't do it right or my mobo is busted.

When you set the CMOS jumper to clear, did you set it back??

Did you try to boot with no drives? Are you getting a POST beep?

If you aren't getting a POST beep and you have set the CMOS jumper in the right position, you probably need to try a boot out of the box on a nonconductive surface. Make sure you connect only the video, keyboard, case speaker, power, power switch, one stick of RAM and the CPU w/heatsink/fan. If you don't at least get a POST beep, it means that your motherboard or CPU is likely bad. If you get POST, but no video, it means that your onboard video or the RAM is the likely problem. If it is onboard video, the only real solution is to return the board for replacement. To check the RAM, try a different RAM stick and test the RAM in another computer if possible. Make sure the RAM is seated well also.

Reply with whatever you find out.... Good luck...

after trying out a lot of things I decided to return the board and get one with no onboard video so i wouldn't have to deal with it.
Anyway thanks for the help.
