Safe mode/device manager question

Now that I can get my computer into safe mode, thanks to the people here, I find multiple entries of the same devices. For example, my DVD drive is listed 3 times and my CD burner is listed twice.

Should I remove just the extras, or remove them all and let Windows find them again?

Are there any devices that should be listed more than once? My primary IDE controller and secondary IDE controller are each listed twice.

Then theres an entry like "IRQ holder for PCI steering" which is listed about 5 times.

I meant to add that I'm using Win98 SE.

Remove any device that is listed more than once (in safe mode) and reboot. That's the usual drill...:)

There are some entries where you will have duplicates which is the way it is supposed to be.

USB can show up duplicates

The PCI IRQ steering I believe is also one that can shop up multiples

As Steve pointed out though, you will want to remove all instances of any suspect entry and let Windoze refind...

If you leave one...another will appear and again double up...that's why we call them "Ghost Drivers!"
