I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and i have some private pictures in my pictures folder. I don't want to have to deal with multiple user accounts is there any way to lock a single folder down with a password.
My daughter tends to be too nosy for her own good....

Assuming that your hard disk is formatted with the NTFS file system, and that you and your daughter log on to the computer with different usernames/passwords, then yes.

To check the file system type, in Windows Explorer right-click the drive icon and select Properties. File system is displayed.

To set permissions on a folder, right-click the folder and select Properties, then the Security tab at top.

For user 'Everyone', place checkmarks in the 'Deny' column as appropriate. Then Add another user -- you -- and make sure permissions are set to Allow for that user.

Without multiple users the only way I know off hand would be to obtain a third-party file encryption tool, which seems slightly overkill.

Personally Im quite in favour of multiple users for effecting simple file/folder restrictions.
