Im building an above average spec computer and im getting a Radeon 9700 Pro. I figured that I would need DirectX9 so I was wondering if this is the correct thing to do? My other specs include a 2.2 GHz AMD Athlon and a 120 Gig Hard drive.

Hello Bender,

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Your Radeon will handle Direct X9...

What Operating System are you planning on using for your build? If it's XP, I think that it comes loaded with DX9...

XP comes with DX 8.0 or 8.1, I think.

For all things DirectX, go to the official site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx).

Sap is right, M$ winXP do comes with DX8.0 so you would need to dl and install DX9. Whyz is also right too, that R9700Pro of your will be able to utilizes DX9 new features.
Have a nice day:p

To whyzman. I'm going to be using Win 2000. Not XP as XP crashes more and has more problems. I think I've downloaded DX 9.0.

I have never seen XP crash more than 2K. Ive been using XP for nearly a year, and the only time its crashed has been a result of modifications Ive made. The only issues Ive had with XP is the visual settings and running services which are easy enough to disable after installation
