Hi georgeparker100 welcome to Pc Guide,
If im reading your post right you have 2 cd-roms, floppy and a hard drive (if wrong let me know), now, your 2 cd-rom should be set as follows-the rom in the middle of the the ide cable set to slave and the rom at the end set to master, if you only have one rom put it at the end of the ide cable set to master.
Your hard drive set to master at the end of the ide cable on the first channel, also check your BIOS for auto detect on all drives/roms.
Hope it helps.
If you were moving connection around
Including the IDE access light connection on the mother board
Double check that connection.
I recall in a number of setups where the M/B had keyboard lock connectors next to the IDE light connector and they can be mixed up.
In fact one Asus M/B had the keyboard lock contacts marked as IDE light :)
Double check the connection of your ide cable
Pin 1 to Pin 1 on both the drives and the M/B
Make sure they are completely inserted
Also make sure the cable has a little slack in it..
It only takes a small amount of pressure on the connector to cause problems with some drives especially older drives
