I,ve built a pc with a salvaged (problematic) hard drive, Award mobo. PIII cpu. Checked all connections over and over. Booted up at first, but went dead when I left the room. Now frozen - red led on, cpu fan on, dvd opens (busy light appears to come on with cd); hard drive whirrs for a moment; no beeps (have tried the speaker cable in opp. polarities);Floppy drive will not respond (tried cable in diff. pos. and different cable) AND no display.
Worried the Cpu may be kaka...but shopowner is AWOL....please
Try booting with just the memory and the vidoeo...(that may give you an error) but if it POSTs and you can then get in to the BIOS try reloading the defalut values. Then add the other components back in one at a time, rebooting after each one to see which one hangs it. Also try removing the board from the case and putting it on a non-concuctive surface and see if it will boot that way....
