:( I had to take my computer to the repair guy.Indications are the CPU drop dead. I have a 4 LED display that indicatates the condition of the boot up and the 4 red LEDS indicate a bad CPU or bad connection. The computer guy will check the sound system for problems. I did everything you saidwith no luck and decided to install a sound card I had from a previous computer.Creative Lab.Right after I installed it the computer wouldn't boot up. I had the board installed before and it worked ok then but didn't like the sound. Thanks for your help

Since you started a new thread, I don't know what you are referring to about things that had been suggested before, but have you tried removing the sound card again to make sure that that isn't the problem??? It is possible that you zapped something with static electricity when you installed the sound card, but it is more likely that you just have a short or the power supply has gone south.... Post more details about the problem and what you have done to try to fix it to get more ideas...

I wasn't paying attention to the tab I clicked on and hit New Post instead of Reply post. It was meant for SKI. He was helping me with my sound system. I took all precautions putting the sound card in. I've put hundreds of boards in computers and never had a failure.Having an electronic background I new how to check the power supply which was ok. I don't have the test equipment for checking CPUs or the MB so I had to bring it to the repair guy. This is the first time in 40 yrs I had to let someone else fix my computer. All my other computers died of old age. I will post a report of the repaires made on my computer. Thanks again
