My cousin brough me his labtop so I could reformat it, unfortunatly it got kicked down the stairs (don't ask how). Nothing seems to be broken but it won't boot. I showed it to a friend of mine and he pulled the hard drive and shook it now you can hear something ratteling inside of it. So I'm hoping its nothing else. So my question is does anyone know of a place to get a dirt cheap hard drive for a gateway 9100 solo. The drive is a IBM travelstar.... Any help would be greatly appreceiated

Number one: don't shake hard drives... if it wasn't busted before, that may have done it.
Number two: laptop hard drives generally can't be found cheap unless they are of extremely dubious quality. It sounds like you are going to have to lay out some bucks...
Number three: keep in mind that you don't know that the hard drive is the problem. While it is probably busted now, it may not have been the reason the computer failed. Laptops are really not made for bouncing around...
Does the computer start properly until it tries to read the HDD?

what happens when it you press the power button is the hd light comes on and won't go off. Nothing comes up on the screen not even the bios logo. So i'm thinking theirs has to be something else wrong with it too.
