Depends on what you mean by best...

That Sony has been around for a while and has a good reputation. However, recently there have been a bunch of other dual format drives including a Plextor and others. I just picked up an I/O Magic DVD +/- RW drive for about $150 after rebate. This may not be the best quality, but it is about the best price I have seen recently. Generally optical drives tend to be pretty decent even in some of the off brands. I figure by the time mine fails, I will be able to pick one up for about $20 and the Blue Laser drives will be the hot ticket....

The Pioneer DVR-A06 is supposed to be the best dual-format DVD writer available today. But again, no telling where the format(s) will go, so perhaps a cheapie is fine for now...
