I've got a problem with my CD Rom drive. I put a disc in, try to run it, but all I get is a bunch of clicking and a message that tells me there's no disc loaded. I've tried several discs, and in my Device Manager, it says that the drive is working properly and that no better driver updates are available. The only thing out of the ordinary I'd been doing prior to discovering the problem is restarting my computer in DOS mode and trying to run a CD-Rom program from there, but would that somehow deny me access from windows? Any help would be great, I'm a grad student who needs this drive to work, and who's in desperate need of a solution that doesn't involve buying a new one. Thanks in advance!

I would go ahead and remove the drive from Device manager then restart the computer and let it reload the drivers for it. Also, you might want tocheck your BIOS to make sure that it still sees it there.

Are your loading the drivers in your config.sys and autoexec.bat files?
If you are, you are loading real mode or DOS drivers and that can sometimes drive Windows to behave in a bizarre manner.
Check that out.

I'd have to say it's time to fork out the cash and buy a new one. At least swap in a known good drive to rule the drive out. Have a great life and remember to help someone where help is needed.
