I am currently putting together a new PC and am wondering about memory speed. I have a Albatron 865PE Pro II mb and a P4 2.c processor. I will put in dual channel memory, but I am confused as to how much of a gain is there in PC4200 vs PC3200. Is the price difference worth it??

I use the PC for work, programming and gaming.

Any help would be appreciated.

PC4200 isn't an official RAM spec (yet) so it's probably not the most reliable. Doing the numbers, that's DDR RAM at 525MHz! That would be taking your 800MHz FSB to 1050MHz.

Really, the only reason to use RAM rated for higher speeds than you need is for overclocking. Given that your PC will be used for work, I don't recommend you overclock by that much.

I assume you have a P4 "C" version on an 800MHz FSB? Dual-channel PC3200 is all you'll need to get the most out of your system.
