I'm trying to upgrade my existing system!!!!!!!!!

First problem fighting my way through Motherboards and trying to get the best one.
Currently running Aopen AX34 with 1Gb Pentium 3, and am looking to upgrade to P4 2.4 to 2.7

Are there any EASY guidelines to follow in selecting an appropriate Motherboard?

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums!

Depends what you want to use the system for, but with P4 you would probably be looking at an MB that supports 800MHz FSB, and in new system more than likely it might be worthwhile getting one with Serial ATA support.

Again depending on the main use you might also want to look at things like onboard LAN, Audio, how many USB does it have and how many do you need, do you want firewire etc.

More info on what you want to use it for and you will probably get some advice on specific motherboards that would be worth considering.

Yep, that is pretty much a "car that has got four wheels and a steering wheel". If you do any intensive computer work/play the options are very different from just putzing around with the computer. Actually, if you are just putzing around, you probably already have all you need. Maybe it would help if you said something about why you want to upgrade at this point....

Also, how much are you thinking about spending? If you want to go state of the art, it can get pretty pricey. If you want a decent working system and you are not sold on a P4, you could probably get mobo and CPU for less than $150....
