For some reason I am no longer able to click on a link within any e- mail message in Outlook Express v6.00.2600.1123 and be directed to a web page, etc. I now have to copy and paste the link into Internet Explorer v6.0.2800.1106. It works OK that way, but it seems I have lost clickable link support. Any ideas? Thanks.

IE >>Tools >>Internet Options >>Programs
a) Make sure that Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser is enabled.
b) Click Reset Web Settings.
c) Click Start >> Run >> Enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Reboot to be on the safe side.

Thanks Paul, but that didn't work either. I have even tried un-installing OE 6, restarting, and re-installing. Strangely enough, when I single right click on an alleged clickable URL link within an e mail message I no longer get an "OPEN" option in the drop-down menu like I used to. Where the heck did it go?

Which OS are you using and if not WinXP did you only recently upgrade to IE6 (and OE6)?

If this is an "upgrade to IE6" related problem then it is likely that either there are version conflicts with the various dlls from the two versions and/or the url file associations are no longer valid for some reason. In such cases one can sometimes be lucky by uninstalling IE6. However repairing IE seldom seems to work. In such situations eradicating IE totally and then reinstalling or a total clean installation of the OS seem to be the only ways to correct these thorny problems.

Re-registering the urlmon.dll was the one most likely to be successful but you can also try registering the following in like manner - though I wouldnt give out a great chance of success.

Regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
Regsvr32 Shell32.dll
Regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
Regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
Regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
Regsvr32 Url.dll

If WinXP then a repair installation of the OS would be likely to sort this out.

In Outlook Express under Options, Connection tab, Change Internet Settings, Advanced tab, Browsing:

Make sure the box is checked for Enable Install on Demand (internet Explorer).

Thanks Paul, but once again, no cigar. However I did get an error message when I attempted to re-register the last file you posted: URL.dll was loaded but the dllRegistryServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered. This tells me a WinXP repair installation is probably the only option at this point. I've never had to do this so I will probably be back. I also checked to see if the 'Enable Install on Demand' box was checked. It was.

Thanks again everyone.

You could try editing the File Associations Directly as described in OLEXP: Internet Shortcuts in Outlook Express Do Not Start Web Browser (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q177/0/54.asp&NoWebContent=1)
Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional
1)Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
2)Click Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click File Types.
3)In the Registered File Types box, click URL:File Transfer Protocol, and then click Advanced.
4)In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Edit.
5)The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full long file name. For example, change:
c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

-to-

c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (include the quotation marks).

6)Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
Repeat steps 3-6 for the following registered file types:
URL:Gopher Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
Click Close.
NOTE: If you follow these steps, you may receive the following prompt when Internet Explorer starts:

Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?
Ensure that the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser check box is not checked under Internet Options, or the issue may recur.
