Well here's the thing.
I was messing around in computer management and well I was stupid and deleted a partition that I'd created. Initially I'd had one primary partition and then three logical drive partitions but I'd deleted the the third logical drive partition.
Now when i go and try to retrieve that last 50gbs it won't even show up in the unallocated volume space. So what do i do? It's like it totally vanished off the hd. How do I get back that last 50gb?
Help....

Ok, first some basic info here. How big is the hard drive and who made it? What OS are you using? What program are you using to access the partitions (fdisk or something else)?
Just for starters, Partition Magic is a nice program that will often do wonders on hard drives! :D For something that's free, the drive manufacturer often has a free downloadable diagnostic app - very effective since it's manufacturer-specific.

the hd is a WD 200 GB 7200 Rpm 8mb memory buffer.
I'm using the computer management tool from windows xp to access the partitions.

The Western Digital hard drive software (http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp#diagutils) should help a bit.
Partition Magic (http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/) is a very powerful app that can access just about everything on your hard drive. Just like its name implies, Partition Magic works like magic on partitions! :D :p

Saphalline,
Thanks so much.
I didn't know that the little disk that came with the hard drive would be so helpful. Turns out the uitility you linked me to came with the HD.
Thanks for the extra info about the partition magic. I might look into that. But it's kinda expensive for the small scale stuff I do. But I'll keep it in mind. :)

Partition magic can be free, for a while. There are trial versions you can download. They expire (become unusable) after 30 days or somesuch, but that should be long enough to fix your rig.
Go have a look-see on download.com, they're sure to have it up for grabs.

The free trial version of partitionMagic will not fix anything.
This is what it says under download information for the free trial:
This is an evaluation version of PartitionMagic which will allow you to experience the product features but will NOT allow you to implement any changes.

You could try making and using a free copy of this Emergency Boot CD.

I've never had the need to try out what it has to offer, but it includes a "Partition Image Manager".
It will also:
Recover the MBR of the 1st HDD.
Unformat & rescue data.
Unerase files.
"Disk Edit" for professionals.
Remove unrecoverable files.
And much more.

There is another partiton software program you try as shareware. I think ver.2.7 is still freeware. Use with care!
