I have heard alot of contraversy about the quality of Symantec products. Is it a good program?

From what I have heard their Internet Firewall is supposed to be very excellent.
Some of the controversy regarding symantec products seems to stem from the difficulties that can occur when trying to uninstall their software and all the stuff it can leave behind.

Symantec software tends to be very robust, so lots of problems stem from people not knowing exactly what they're doing.
Roger Chang on TechTV discounted Norton's Personal Firewall in favor of McAfee's firewall. McAfee even won out over Zone Alarm Pro.
I've used Norton's products for years with no serious side effects. But, you must use common sense when using such a powerful software suite as Norton's.

I find that Norton programs tend to conflict with a number of programs, including each other. They do some odd things at times too and finding an explanation is nearly impossible. My NAV started dialing into the web after an update and I never did get an explanation as to why. I found this really offensive in a security program. I have generally found Symantec support less than helpful as well...

I've used Norton anti-virus on and off for several years and have found it to be a top of the line program. Having ignored security for quite a while, and having had my network ravished over and over, I put together another computer this past weekend and put Norton Internet Security on it. So far, I like it. It'll take some time to know for sure.
I've used Zone Alarm for a long time. I thought it might be time for a change.
All good comments. This is exactly what I wanted. Thanks.

I've been using Norton Internet Security for about 2 weeks and its been fine...
... I got broadband this morning and ran all the updates for NIS and NAV. Now I can't get into supervisor mode, the firewall has fallen down and I can't uninstall it either. Can't find much about it on their support boards either.
Anyone else had this problem?
