I find this problem rather anoying. About a couple months ago i made a CD using directCD. all it is, is a bunch of MP3s i threw on a CD. Now say i take that CD and i put it in the CD-R Drive, nothing happens. it thinks the CD is blank. but if i log off windows and log back in or restart, my computer can read the CD until i take it out and put it back in. then it thinks its empty again. im having this problem with alot of my CDs(only the ones made with directCD. and it only happens in WindowsXP. Could this have something to do with the CD being made with directCD??

I am going to assume your not using Directcd with WinXP. ( Built in cd-r support ??)
That may in fact be the problem.
Direct cd makes the cd-r disk a multi session disk and XP maybe having a hard time reading it.

Have you tried to install directcd?

DirectCD isn't compatable with WindowsXP, at least i dont think it is. I did try to install it on there but Windows wouldnt let me run it because of its built in CD-R support. Also, the CDs work in all other computers. THe problem im getting would usually be from the CD not being closed when it was written. but i know thats not the case now because i know the CDs are closed. hmmm, now that i think of it, maby because i installed DirectCD and it wasnt compatable with windows in the first place it messed something up with the winXP cdr support. which would make no sence. you would think it would be compatable because the built in CDr support is also made by roxio.

I think it’s time to pay a visit to Roxio for a little tech talk.
I was unaware that Adaptec/Roxio created the cd-r support for XP.
But then again many other companies have cut their own throats dealing with Microsoft by creating Amplets for use In Windows.
Just to have MS change it and make it non compatible with the old or full version.
( Backup, Java to name a couple)

Just one more reason why I don’t think I will be jumping on the XP band wagon any time soon
