Hey everyone. In the near future i plan on buying a new computer and running as a net gaming server and i'd like to set it up with my regular computer on a network. I've just got a small problem. Right now i'm running DSL on my computer but plan to use the higher speed internet service that my ISP provides.

My current speed is 1.5 Mbps downlaod and 320 Kbps upload. Anyways that works completely fine under my 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN. The question is when i get my new service which will run up to 3 Mbps download and 640 Kbps upload, would using a 10/100 NIC work fine with such fast internet? Also if i happen to have Gigabit LAN in both my current system and my server, would there be a problem with the router only being 10/100 and not 10/100/1000? I'm new to networking and this will be my first project so i'm not sure if there is such a 10/100/1000 router. Thanks!

3Mbps is still a lot less than 100Mbps so using 10/100 should work just fine.

There seem to be a few routers out there with gigabit ports but those seem to be aimed at large scale enterprise rather than home or small to medium businesses. Or maybe Im just not looking hard enough.:(

Do you know if 640Kbps is a good upload speed for a gaming server? Also how big of a gaming server do you think i could host with this speed. i'm hoping for a 14 player server. The specs for the system are as follows.

3.0C GHz
Intel 865 Motherboard
Samsung 2x512MB 3200
