Recently I've been looking at getting a "New" PC, now all the base units I look at have a load of stuff that I don't want and the refurbished PC's are around the speed and capabillities of my old PC.

I've thought about building my own, but all the parts are really expensive (I'm only a poor warehouse assistant!!). Does anyone know anywhere that still stocks old parts and systems in the UK? I know how to build it, but getting the parts (And storing them while I'm saving for the next bit) is proving to be a little tricky (Or should I say that getting the parts CHEAPLY is proving to be a little tricky).

At the moment I have a HP Pavilion (Celeron 533MHz, 64MB RAM, 15GB HDD, 11MB shared video RAM, cable modem), I'm looking to at least double the power of my PC to between 1 and 2GHz chip (Athlon preferably), 256MB RAM (At least) and integrated video (With the option to upgrade later, any suggestions for a video card would be most grateful). I would also like to get a 15" TFT monitor at least (I've seen one for around £200, can anyone beat that?) and as small a case as possible simply because I'm limited for space. Keyboard and mouse I've already got (Always handy to have spares!).

Can anyone suggest anywhere I can find these items?

Or should I call the IMF?

Thanks in advance,

Allan

One of the major considerations in any build is its intended use...e.g., games, video editing, surfing the web, etc.,

So, how are you planning on putting your new build to use??

Check some of the magazines as sometimes oyu will get adverts for your build spec's, with and without OS's. Reasonable prices. From about £400.00 I will look out a couple of adverts and PM you with the details tonight or tomorrow.
