Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums!

Try not to type in all caps because it's considered shouting.

Sounds like your system may have more problems than you think. Can you give further details on your PC? The specs and OS version will help the most. And how often you defrag your hard drive and update your drivers.

Not much help but have a look at the Readme file on the CD (normally Readme.txt) on it will be an install guide and a troubleshooting section with a section on known issues, it often listens issues with certain hardware where you need to update a driver or compatability issues, especially useful when they have a url to a site that will be more up to date than the CD-ROM.

Sounds like InstallShield problems.

matrox gforce milleniumI'm afraid that's not an actual video card. Matrox is not the company that makes GeForce's, but they did make the old Milleniums. NVidia makes GeForce's. Can you be more specific about your video card? Is it at least an AGP card? How much RAM is on it?

One thing that fixes most PC game-related problems is to update your drivers. Chipset drivers, sound drivers, and video drivers are the most crucial for PC games.

It will cause no problems. Just download the file and it will replace the ikernel.exe file.

Here is a link for easier instructions. How Do I Install ikernel? (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108312)

If you cannot download the file, you got more problems than you realize. :p

Did you highlighted the engine directory and delete it?
Just installing over it does not help.

Well... If the above statement is true, I would have thought it was the InstallShield problem.
As a last resort, I would suggest reading InstallShield (http://consumer.installshield.com/default.asp) and see what you can find.

Other than that, you will need to be more precise on details with the problem.

Edit:
Another thing you can try is to shut down all programs. This includes programs in the systray (near the clock). Maybe you had something running that your friend didn't.

When you say you had 3 CDs, do you mean copies of an original disk? If so, you were probably running into copy protection from the original CD to prevent exactly what you were trying to do....

Yep. What Budfred said.
Max Payne is copy protected and that is where your problem resides.
