I can't believe that there are more "critical' updates! You would think that the security side would have been dissected every which way but up already. This is getting boring. Every Wed more stuff to worry about.

Sure, but what with the cost of personnel these days and so on, I don't think MS has enough staff to think these things through before putting them on the market.
When I think about the amount of harm done each time *before* a "critical update" is issued...

I don't understand your frustration. Windows will continue to have security updates and various fixes probably forever. I think you either should get used to it or try and do everything you do with your computer on an alternate OS. In my opinion, Windows has become such a monstrous, do-everything OS that its complexity has outgrown MS. They now get what used to be called beta testing from the worlds collection of deviant nerds. I don't see this problem ever going away. The Windows OS will grow more inclusive, application wise and more complicated as a result. I don't believe anyone, not Linux, be or Mac could do as much as MS products do and be as large as they are and not have a small army of people who actively look for flaws to exploit. It's more akin to natural distrust people have for any all-encompassing company or government. If Apple's OS suddenly gained 80 more points in market share they would become a target. You can not make such a complex GUI and have it interact with every application, protocol and be able to scale to any need, while still able to be used by the complete novice and NOT have all kinds of exploitable problems. The problems are so complex your OS would cost much more than what it does today and would take much longer to be released. Even then they would have people poking around and finding exploits. How about we turn some of our frustration towards the people finding and writing code to screw with innocent peoples computers? Do you blame a bank for a robbery if they have the safe-door open three hours each day? How would you feel if someone came into your garage and soldered one wire to your cars electronics and now your car wouldn't start? Who is to blame? Is it GMs fault for not making a combination lock built into the hood or should they have some sensor that recognizes the hood is lifted and scans the finger tips for correct fingerprint patterns, if it finds it isn't an appropriate person it sends you a call on your cell phone?
I think they can do better but, I think that even with a 100 fold increase in security it would take, the aforementioned deviant nerds, a few more months to find even newer exploits.
Secure operating systems do exist by the way, no one uses them.
