Hiya

Started a thread on OS earlier cos PC was hanging. However since arriving home to play, the thing wont boot at all.

There is power to MB as fans are whizzing and the CD's light up. I can also feel the HD working.

I removed everything except keyboard and didn't get any beeps.

I am presuming that this Mobo is not even getting to POST and is dead.

I have looked at the excellent flowcharts and think they back up this theory.

System
Asus A7A266-E
1gb PC133 SDRAM
AMD XP1700
60gb Barracuda
Win XP-Pro

thanks for your thoughts

Oh, just remembered did swap Mobo to another case..damaged in transit ? Just taken a few weeks to finally die ?

I posted a response to the question in your original thread. One option to consider is the power supply, especially if you recently transferred to a new case and if it is a PS that came with the case.

Try a barebones boot out of the case on a nonconductive surface. This would include the CPU, motherboard, case speaker (to see if you get POST), power, power switch, one stick RAM, video and keyboard. This will help to find out if it is a short circuit problem.

Do you have access to a different stick of RAM? If the fans and drives are receiving power, then the CPU is getting power also. This would indicate that the mobo is not completely dead. I would try a different stick of RAM if you have one, before replacing the mobo.

Remember to check it for Bad Capacitors (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25482) It doesn't cost anything to check and takes 10-20 seconds...

Hi Guys

Spent many hours into the dead of night with various configurations.

Eventually golt down to bare bones just to get some kind of beep.

Nothing.

I took the board from the new case and put it into my old one which worked fine (only upgraded cos I wanted more room for an extra drive)

There is power but no one is at home where POST is concerned.

I will check the capacitors though..

At the end of the day I have swapped everything for stuff that works fine in my other PC ie RAM, Video, etc..

It's time to accept the inevitable and use it for an excuse to upgrade..

Have ordered new ASUS mobo and CHip (plus some DDR) so lets see how that goes. I'll let you know if it works and then I may send the Mobo to ASUS to see if they can diagnose anything.

Thanks for the help...very much appreciated
