Hi all.

Todady, I downloaded the apple i-tunes software that is just now available for windows. IMHO, I think it's is an awesome service for someone who was not into peer-to-peer for a variety of reasons. I located an old Tony Rice tune that I totally adore of which I only had a tape I made back in 1984 from a friend's scatchy album. It goes without saying that I am a happy man tonight. Anybody else try i-tunes yet? Be curious of others' opinions.

Question,
What kind of mp3 player can be used with i-tunes for windows? Must it be the i-pod?

I don't know, and have lots of questions (I actually posted some of these under the Windows forum). I am learning hour by hour. I was able to burn a cd with the 5 i-tune songs I downloaded and play the cd in our stereo cd player. However, I had to burn the cd using the propriety software that comes with i-tunes. If I tried to use Easy CD Creator, it did not register the downloaded files. Which begs the question of whether they can be converted into wav, mp3, or whatever. This may not be possible but it lets apple keep these from being widely disseminated.

But the service itself is really cool. My wife joined me. She tends to think that I'm daft when it comes to computers, i.e., buggy-eyed fanatic who hides too long in my office. Nevertheless, we downloaded an old Bonnie Raitt song and she got to see how easy it is to do so, plus the relatively large (and apparently expanding) libary of music they have. The interface is very intuitive, very easy, extremely easy to use. Plus, you can sample the songs first. Now, as I currently am running a dial-up at only 28kb (!@%$*&%#@*@&!), the sampling is limited, and the download is slow. The latter may be a blessing in disguise, as I could sit here all day. I found an old David Bromberg tune I loved and downloaded it. Haven't played it in 20 years, and it's so nice hearing it in pristine digital.

Ya gotta think that, as this becomes popular, someone will figure out a way, legal or otherwise, to convert these files to more widely used formats that can be converted back and forth so that i-tunes can be combined with tunes from other sources on the same cd. Or perhaps apple has plans to do so already, or there is a way to do so and I just haven't figured it out yet. I am basically a novice when it comes to working handily with audio files.

Thanks bassvax, sorry budfred. I just found it via google, it came right up. Under the Windows discussion forum, I have posted a similar post but with specific questions and concerns, and I've gotten some nice feedback there as well.
