how to take out hard disk

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please!

I have a Toshiba Satelite 2540CDT and have dropped a glass of water over it. It fails to boot and keeps asking for the bios update.

Bios update writes as it should but then the same thing happens.

The machine is buggered, I am sure and no prob - the insurance will pay.

I do want to retrieve the data though.

I do not have the manual and don't know how to get to the HDD...

Can anyone talk me through it or poiny=t me in the right direction. The Toshiba site is less than useful :(

Found the answer on a previous reply here... I love these forums ;)

Hard Drive Installation Instructions

You must reuse the bracket from the old hard drive!

Turn notebook upside-down.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the 3 screws closest to the front panel.
Turn the notebook right-side-up.
Gently remove the palm-rest from the notebook and set it aside.
Remove the keyboard from the notebook.
Remove the 7 Phillips screws that hold the complete PCMCIA assembly in place.
Remove the PCMCIA assembly from the notebook.
Slide the hard drive back towards you and remove it from the notebook.
Remove the metal bracket from the old hard drive and assemble it onto the new hard drive.
Slide the new hard drive into the notebook, making sure it is firmly connected.
Replace the PCMCIA assembly back into the notebook, making sure it is firmly seated.
Replace the 7 screws that were removed in STEP #7.
Replace the keyboard.
Replace the palm-rest.
Turn the notebook upside-down.
Replace the 3 screwss that were removed in STEP #3.
Replace the battery pack.

If you are going to calim on the insurance for the computer. you might invalidate the insurance if you open it and remove the HDD

I think dropping a glass of water might mess the insurance before opening the case. Would insurance cover things like abnormal liquid spillages?

The Hard drive is probably removable anyway... & if its your home contents insurance I cant imagine they would care what happened.

Suffice to say its broke :)

Maybe prudent to check just in case I guess (with sensible hat on now)
