I apologize in advance if my post is not quite in the right forum -- I'm new here.

I have a T1 connection to the Internet, and in the last couple of days, pop up ads keep coming up on my PC while I'm working, when I don't have my browser open. I understand that being w/ T1, my connection to the Internet is constant and open (and I do have firewall protection, btw). I just don't know how to get them to stop. Obviously I picked up something weird from a Web site that gives itself constant access to my PC. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this, so I don't keep getting harassed while I work?

The first Place I would Look is in the System .ini file.
“Shell = explorer.exe is the default”

A few of these spam and other less than desirable sites will add there BS to this command line

I would also recommend grabbing AdAware (http://www.lavasoft.de) and running it.

t1 Wow, wished i had one. Go to start/settings/control panel/internet options. On the general tab click on settings/view file/
Then go to EDIT, select all and right click the bold files and delete.
Be aware this deletes your cookies, which keeps like passwords and stuff. But it will definately rid you of these popups.
