I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on how to get a 4-5 year old HP printer (Model-deskjet 712C) to work with windows XP professional. I have used the wizard(manually)to set up the printer and when I am finished the printer is listed but when it prints it stops in the middle of the job.The model is listed in the XP drivers list. When I went to the HP site to see about upgrading the drivers, the site scans the computer and it does not recognize my printer. When I use the wizard I also used the plug and play and it did not recognize the printer. The printer cable I am using is a belkin IEEE 1284. I also should mention I have another printer (Epson stylus photo 870) that went through this process and is fine. This printer is also connected by parallel port. I have a splitter so I can use the printer of my choice. I also connected the HP printer directly to the computer, bypassing the splitter and that did not work either. I would appreciate any information regarding this situation.

Thanks,
Paul

First thing to do is remove try is remove the splitter then the printer from your list, and then re-install the printer and see if it works/installs whilst connected directly.

Another thing to check is to have a look at he port the printer was installed under. (Printer properties and look for ports) It could be that it has installed into another port due to the splitter.

I read somewhere that it doesnt work in XP. However many people have had success installing it as an HP 720.
Uninstall your printer; restart XP let it find it; show it the drivers for the 720... & keep your fingers crossed. :D
