Last night I did a reinstallation of win2k and was dissatisfied with the results So I formated the drive and did a clean install. Now when I try to click on certain links online nothing happens. Any ideas,
FH

I am now loged on to the computer in question under the Admin account and the same thing is happening. Also When I log off and log on as different user it takes about a minute or more. Now when I try to go to windows update the site will not even load, just says done. I have no problem connecting to the internet though, FH

I think I'd run the Harddrive diagnostics...
If they turn up A-OK...then I'd redo the install...seems like something got corrupted...

Yeah, I just hate to do another full install after a repair and a full install. Slim chnace that it could have been infected in the hour that I was online without my AVG anti virus. Ill keep pluggin away.
Thanks

Did you run the Harddrive diagnostics??
Weird things can happen if the drive is, how do the Brits say it, "doggy?"

I think that is "dodgy".... :)
I agree though, I would run the hard drive diagnostics before anything else. It is possible that you picked up something nasty if you were online for an hour without protection, but it sounds more like a hard drive or RAM issue....

I sure will run the Dell Hardware Diag on the hd and memmory. Just dont understand how that would effect just the links from certain sites and from a bunch of emails.

It may be a malware infection, but it sounds like it could also be a corrupted install and that would be more likely to be hardware based. You could certainly run a set of malware scans rather than the diagnostics, but you may eventually want to do both. I am not sure that I would trust the Dell diagnostics to do a thorough job, but that's your choice....

I already ran the Dell Hardware Diags on the HD and MEM AND FOUND NOTHING> ALL tests came up clean> i dont understand> Well I WILL EVENTUALLY Have to reinstall the OS probly. What a pain. So are you guys saying that a hardware error can cause a corrupted install?
Thanks, FH

Sure....
However, I would run malware scans before starting over just to make sure that isn't the cause of the problem. An hour online without protection is a long time....
