i'm running Windows XP. I have NIS 2004 loaded, but i'm also running Ad-aware, Spybot S&D (advanced), BigFix and Spyblaster periodically. I also ran PC Pitstop and Shields UP! to analyze my computer which came out with a Stealth rating. ok, so i keep having this file populate my desktop after my browsing sessions. the name of it is shown as a tilda (~), it's only 211kb and the properties list it as "file". does anyone know what it is and how it might be automatically populating my desktop? i had gotten this file once in the past and had deleted it..this was before i loaded NIS, ad-aware, etc...no problem in deleting it, i just want to know the WHY and WHERE to ascertain possible other system vulnerabilities. thanks!!!:)

oh my gosh...am i EVER so :o
not only did i NOT read through all the other postings here at PC Guide, but i couldn't get anything to come up about it in google.com. in fact, when i put the "~" character in the google search window..i just got a blank page return.
ok, so i will rename, back up the file and delete it from my desktop.
thank you, both, soooo much for your help...now, excuse me while i quietly slink away from my puter.
