If you right-click a program's shortcut icon on the desktop, select Properties/Shortcut, there's a line entitled 'Shortcut Key:'.
By default this will say 'None'.

I just cannot remember how you asisgn a keyboard letter (Ctrl+V etc) to these shortcuts, even though I've done it in the past.

Just click in the box, and press a letter (like "V"). It defaults to Ctrl-Alt plus your letter, but you can also use Shift-Alt, Ctrl-Shift, or Ctrl-Alt-Shift.

They're great when they work, but they sometimes get screwed up, especially if you forget what your shortcuts are and assign the same shortcut to two different apps. (I'm referring to 98, maybe they work more reliably in XP...)

I have never had a problem with it assigning the same shortcut combination to two seperate programs.

For example if you try to assign the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+P to two different apps the second time it will refuse to accept the P at all until you change something.

pentachris: I must be getting senile in my old age, because I didn't think of clicking in the box!!

I won't forget next time. ;)
