View Full Version : Win98 SE upgrade to XP Home
during the installation process, Xp found possible hardware issues and listed them. It listed my USB wireless antenna, my HP K60 printer, my photosmart printer etc.... It indicated that it might affect E_mail and internet access....etc... I canceled out, is it not as scary as it reads? What if I proceed and nothing works...can I uninstall XP OS easily?
Check the web site for the Hardware it listed
Look for the winXP drivers there
If they have them just download them and use those to correct any problems you may run into later
Also.
I would disconnect all the hardware listed as possible problem hardware during the install.
Then add one at a time later after you have XP installed , undated and running
Avoid the Hassles before they start . then fix them one at a time

An alternative way to go would be to add WinXP as a dual boot option. That way you would still have the original if you wanted it. For this to work best, it would be wise to first partition your hdd or add a second hdd.
My HDD has three partitions already, how would XP install know where to install will it ask that question during install?

Basically - YES. Just read the screen prompts carefully and abort if you are unsure.
Booting to the installation CD seems to be the least confusing way to proceed. Dont agree to the upgrade option - choose new installation. Agree to the EULA. Select the partition to install onto (or if you prefer you can have one of the existing partitons deleted and then install into the unallocated space it makes). That would obviously lose any data in that partition. Let the installation proceed and have your CD key handy.
You could also read the Black Viper (http://www.blkviper.com/Articles/OS/InstallXPPro/installxppro1.htm) page - though there seem to be a lot of popups on it these days.
