I changed the registry to include 'no recent docs menu' some while ago, but I now realise that there is still a folder at

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent

so there seems little point in the registry change, unless you delete the 'recent' folder (which I have now done) but would this have been sufficient without the reg change.?

If you are referring to the "Recent" Key referenced at:-

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell Folders
... and at
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders

... then these shell folder settings will always want to recreate the folder in the designated position as long as the registry keys still exist.

You don't say which OS or how many users, but that doesn't look like the default positon which would be Windows/Recent in Win98 with a lone user.

hi paul,

lone user w98se.

http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/tune-25.shtml

folder has now re created (although didnt appear to at first.)

there is apparently a tweak utility, within the Cd, ie:

Note: These settings can also be changed with TweakUI (you can find it on your CD-ROM in the \tools\reskit\powertoy folder).
-------------------------------------------------------
I have checked w98 fe/ w98se upgrade/ w98se full prog and its not on any

I get as far as reskit, but no powertoy, does everyone else have it ?

but I found the following in readme.
--------------------------------------------
1.0 Setup for the Resource Kit Software
The Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler tools and utilities are located in the \TOOLS\RESKIT directory of the Windows 98 operating system CD. This directory contains a Master Setup Program (SETUP.EXE) for the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler that is separate from the Windows 98 operating system installation. When you run this Setup program, it installs all of the Sampler utilities on your computer's hard drive, except the tools in the Net Administration (NETADMIN) category, which require separate installation procedures. See Section 1.3 of this document for more information about installing these tools.

The following is a list of the main directories of the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler on the Windows 98 compact disc. Note that The \TOOLS directory contains files and folders that are not part of the Resource Kit Sampler installation.

\TOOLS\RESKIT Root directory containing Resource Kit Setup files.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\BATCH Batch 98, which creates files for automated Windows 98 installations.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\CONFIG Contains tools for configuring Windows 98.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\DEPLOY Contains deployment tools.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\DESKTOP Contains desktop configuring and optimizing tools.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\DIAGNOSE Contains diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\FILE Contains tools for file management and information.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\HELP Contains online help documentation and the online Resource Kit book.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\INFINST Contains INFINST.EXE, .Inf installing tool.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\NETADMIN Contains Network Administration tools.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\SCRPTING Contains tools for use in batch files and Scripts.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\SETUP Contains Windows 98 Resource Kit setup files.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\SYSFILES Contains controls and .DLLs used by many of the Resource Kit utilities.
\TOOLS\RESKIT\TMC Contains system files for the Resource Kit Tools Management Console.

You can get TweakUI for Win98 from http://www.systemsmedic.com/TweakUI.htm

It was in the Reskit for the Win98 CD but wasn't included on the Win98se CD. Yet another typical Microsoft approach to things.
