You think xp will last, with that activation code. IN yalls experience do you think that people will not go along with this and just boycott them, or will we forced to do it microsofts way. I guess i have to give linux a ring now. Thats crazy bout the speaker situation too. This whole thing is absurd!!!

Should Charles put up a heading that says "We will not be answering XP questions. That would be beyond all technical reasoning." http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Sounds like this is going to turn out worse than any of us predicted.

The sad part is that people will be lining up to buy it. We've had it up and running here and I've got to admit it is probably the best consumer version of Windows yet.
And Linux just isn't ready for prime time. One thing that nags at my brain is why doesn't Apple write code to run on all hardware it's not like they make a lot of money on their hardware

While I don't know a lot about computers I do Know a little about business, most companies do not allow multiple applications at the same price of a single one ie:zonealarm pro etal., it is just not cost effective. Also forcing (or the attempt to) using other company products in order to use one is not new, even if a little unethical(sp).Which brings all back to the question of a monopoly. I think the main point is M$ has people by the----- because people have placed them in M$'s hands. There is no reason to pretend this is anything new ever since Bill stole windows it has been escalating. And I applaud Apple for not falling into the trap of playing Bills game. They must feel that thier system is fine without Bill and they tend to focus on buiness and schools anyway. And the only reason I not using a Mac right nw is $$$$.So untill someone comes up with a better and cheaper mousetrap or we leave Bill to play with his ball by himself we will play by his rules.

ever since Bill stole windows
True some people do see it that way, but Windows is the result of work MS did in conjunction with IBM when they were jointly producing OS-2. What MS did was continue to use the same ideas they had come up with for that project, and improve on them. IBM is not and never was a software production oriented corporation, if that were the case, and if Gates had "stolen" windows, IBM would have sued his butt off and we would have seen OS-2 produced and marketed the same as Windows, and improvements made as it went. Fact is, MS was the software company of that project, and the OS they produced was theirs, not stolen. In case people are not aware of it, MS also produced IBM's PC DOS, it was almost identical to MS-DOS, but licensed to IBM so they could put their name on it. IBM did not produce it. Nor did Gates and MS steal Windows from them.
The PC Guide Discussion Forums is a computer tech support forum, and we will continue to do what we have always done, answer questions and attempt to solve problems, whether those problems are related to DOS or XP. I, for one, may not agree with the activation scheme or other various issues surrounding XP, but I will not refuse our visitors the competent assistance they come here for. Until I hear differently from Charles, that will be the stance and policy of the forums as well.
What questions any individual participant chooses to answer or not answer is up to that individual, participation is entirely voluntary. Any person who does not wish to try and deal with problems and issues involving XP is free to refrain from answering any particular question and move on to the next one.
The one thing that will not be tolerated is popping in just to make derogatory comments about XP or advising visitors to install Win98 or whatever as a solution to their problems, same as it is now. Many of us don't like AOL either, but we do attempt to help solve problems our visitors have with it, and AOL related questions are not turned into AOL slamfests. Same for XP...
Thanks for posting the article mjc, interesting reading...

Pop-up's are driving me stoopid as it is.
And I ask myself--- If I was a Billionare would I really care if somebody gave his friend a pirate copy of my O/S?
Would I really care if a PC hobby/geek type person swapped out the components of his/her trusty machine?
Aaah questions, questions.

Mr.Pete I bow to your superior knowledge and admit my obvious ignorance of some of the facts however my point was originally not to dis microsoft bit to explain some of the business decisions they have made. I personaly think Bill Gates is a marketing wizard who surronds himself with some of the best software people in the business. But Bassman hoe do you think ol' Bill became a Billionare? Not by giving things away. And Diurnal I think the people in this forum get along fine, there is nothing wrong with the spirited exchange of ideasafter all that is what this great country was founded on. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I think you are all wondreful. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
